Police: 20-year-old suspect nabbed in deadly Arlington convenience store shooting

Arlington police nabbed a suspect in the March 2026 shooting death of 20-year-old Malachi Hayes.

According to a news release, homicide detectives acquired a warrant for Aleq Holmes, 20, on a charge of capital murder. On June 4, the United States Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force apprehended Holmes in Grand Prairie and arrested him.

The incident occurred on March 26 at a convenience store in the 2100 block of East Abram Street. Officers arriving on the scene discovered Hayes lifeless in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transferred to a hospital, where he later died.

Investigators said Holmes was identified as a suspect after studying digital evidence and interrogating witnesses. Detectives believe Hayes and Holmes were engaged in a high-risk conduct related to a firearm purchase when the shooting occurred.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials say more arrests are possible.
