The Akron Fire Department is urging drivers to steer clear of a stretch of East Avenue following a significant gas leak.
The department’s Facebook page reports that the street’s Interstate 76/77 overpass has been shut down due to the leak.
The Ohio Department of Transportation’s OHGO traffic-monitoring website indicates East Avenue is closed from Rosamond Avenue south to Morse Street as crews work to contain the situation.
Freeway traffic along I-76/77 was moving normally, according to the site as of 12:35 p.m.
