A homeless man was taken into custody for allegedly setting fire to a home in Miami.
On Wednesday morning, the City of Miami Fire Rescue responded to the blaze at Southwest 14th Avenue and 10th Street.
Authorities believe 28-year-old homeless man Lazaro Prieto started the fire.
According to the arrest record, a witness told a responding officer that Prieto was standing behind an apartment building near Southwest 15th Avenue, refusing to leave while igniting various items on fire. Prieto also allegedly threatened to burn down the building while brandishing two lighters.
At the location of the fire, a witness reported seeing Prieto behind the duplex and flames coming from the back of the property.
According to the complaint, the witness entered the home to investigate and discovered Prieto standing outside with a lighter in his hand.
Arson investigators determined that the fire at the vacant home started in three different areas in the back of the property. According to the arrest form, they had yet to ascertain whether an accelerant had been used.
Prieto was charged with arson and burglary of an uninhabited structure.
There were no injuries recorded.
