Middleport Independence Day Parade Route and Other Changes with 2019 Celebration

MIDDLEPORT, Ohio – Middleport will be celebrating on Independence Day with a few changes to the celebration from previous years.

In the past the Middleport Independence Day parade and activities have been under the direction of the Middleport Community Association. With the disbanding of that organization, a new group, the Middleport Business Association has stepped forward to take over the festivities.

One of the changes this year is that most of the celebration will focus around the Blakeslee Center, specifically the lawn. On July 4, 2019 the parade lineup will begin At 5 p.m. followed by the parade starting at 6 p.m. Parade winners will be announced along with a flag raising at the completion of the parade. The parade route has completely changed. The parade will begin on Pearl Street by the Middleport Village Hall toward General Hartinger, then turn left on General Hartinger, left on Second Avenue, left on Mill Street, and left on Third Avenue. The parade will end up with a right turn onto Hamilton Street. For parade entries to be judged, they must travel in front of The Blakeslee Center.

Due to the hard work the Middleport Community Association spent through the years on months planning for the annual Independence Day activities, three of their members have been asked to represent the association and serve as Grand Marshalls in the parade. Texanna Wehrung, Linda Myers and Ron Miller will be the Grand Marshalls for the 2019 parade.

Additional activities include Next Level performing on the lawn of the Blakeslee Center at beginning at 7 p.m. and going until 9 p.m. There will be a lantern launch at 9 p.m. followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. Fire works will be at the usual spot by Dairy Queen in Middleport.
