Brothers win $27M lawsuit after stranger invades their Streeterville hotel room

Two brothers have won a $27 million lawsuit they filed against a Streeterville hotel after a stranger allegedly forced his way into one of their rooms and attempted to sexually assault one of them in November 2022, according to court records.

Pasquinel Taylor, now 47, had been released for about a week after reportedly being discovered sleeping in a stranger’s Boystown home without permission when the event occurred at the Sheraton Grand Chicago, 301 East North Water Street.

Taylor, who was not a hotel guest, entered the property on November 8 and rode an elevator after a registered guest used a key card to activate the security system, according to the lawsuit. He then strolled the premises for hours without being accosted by personnel. According to the lawsuit, the brothers stayed in separate but neighboring rooms while visiting from St. Louis.

According to prosecutors, around checkout time, one of the brothers heard a tap on his door and a masculine voice talking. He opened the door, expecting to see his brother. Instead, prosecutors said he spotted Taylor, who begged to come inside for a sip of water before touching the victim’s chest and offering to perform a sex act. The man declined and attempted to close the door, but Taylor allegedly forced his way inside the room as the victim summoned his brother for assistance.

Prosecutors claimed Taylor pulled the victim into a bed, grabbed his wrists, stood over him, and pounded him in the face and torso. The victim fought back and managed to escape, allowing his brother to enter the room. A brawl ensued. Taylor hit the first man in the face with a glass, while the second sibling assaulted Taylor with a bottle. According to the criminal complaint, the first brother eventually restrained Taylor while the other brother and one of their girlfriends sought assistance from hotel security. Members of the victims’ party claimed they had never seen Taylor before.

Taylor later “made a statement about a rape fantasy,” authorities alleged, while security officials looked on. Chicago police then arrested him. The sibling who answered the door had cuts on his hands and body, as well as stitches for a cut on his nose. Prosecutors say the other brother received cuts, red marks, and bruising.

Taylor, who is still fighting the criminal allegations, has prior felony convictions for forgery in 2000, production or delivery of methamphetamine in 2017, possession of methamphetamine in 2021, and manufacturing and passing false checks in 2006.

The boys filed a complaint against the hotel, alleging negligence and seeking damages for physical injuries, emotional distress, and other consequences of the alleged attack. According to Chicago court documents, a Cook County jury awarded $18 million to a brother who was reportedly pummeled after answering the door. The judges awarded the other brother $9 million.
