Culver City bank robbery suspect apprehended after attempted robbery in L.A.

A man accused of robbing a Culver City bank earlier this month has been apprehended and prosecuted for allegedly committing a similar heist elsewhere in Los Angeles County, authorities said Tuesday.

The robbery occurred on June 2 about 1:10 p.m. at a bank in the 3800 block of Culver Center Drive, according to the Culver City Police Department.

Investigators said the suspect approached a teller window and handed over a note requesting money. Although the individual never revealed a firearm, he made repeated gestures toward his waistband and claimed to have a gun, leading employees to assume he was armed.

On June 2, 2026, a man claimed to be armed with a gun inside a Culver City bank and stole $10,000.

According to authorities, bank staff agreed with the demand out of fear for their own safety.

The suspect, described as a Black adult about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a hefty build, then escaped on foot with approximately $10,000 in US cash.

Following an investigation by Culver City detectives and the department’s forensics team, the suspect was identified as Shawn Greene, 35.

Greene was detained on June 12 by deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s West Hollywood Station for allegedly attempting to rob another bank, according to an amended news release.

Greene was examined by Culver City investigators while in detention in West Hollywood, and according to authorities, he acknowledged to the Culver City bank heist on June 2.

He was then charged with two counts of bank robbery by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
