A pregnant woman allegedly drove an SUV into a hotel before shooting a guest and then turning the gun on herself.
Authorities believe a pregnant woman died in a shooting that followed an SUV crash into a hotel in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, while she was searching for two people she knew, WCVB reported.
Police responded to reports of shots fired at a hotel early Thursday morning after an SUV crashed into the building and caused damage.
Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. told WHDH that a preliminary investigation indicates the suspect drove to the hotel in an attempt to locate two individuals she knew.
“Preliminary investigation into this case indicates that the suspect drove to the hotel in an attempt to find two people that person knew,” Early told WHDH. “Responding officers located a guest suffering from an apparent gunshot wound who at that time was in the front of the hotel. The victim was transferred to Harrington Hospital and later life flighted to the UMass Memorial Medical Center campus in Worcester, Massachusetts.”
A witness identified as Stuart Mackelvie told reporters with WCVB that the woman emerged from the SUV shouting.
“She jumped out and was shouting, ‘Where are you, where are you?’ and then shot three times quickly into the, it seemed like into the, hotel room. And then I heard smashing glass, and I think she maybe climbed into the room,” Mackelvie told WCVB.
“The victim remains in critical but stable condition at this point, and investigators believe that person was not one of the people that the woman who arrived at the hotel had targeted with regards to looking for them,” Early told WHDH.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash and shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
