2 men charged with flooding NYC with 1M doses of ‘liquid poison’ date rape drug

A pair of Manhattan men were taken into custody this week after they allegedly imported one million individual doses of the lethal date rape drug GBL into NYC.

Mark Dygdon and Rodrigo Castro are accused of conspiring to flood the five boroughs with seven tonnes of gamma-butyrolactone, also known as Blue Nitro and Revivarant, which causes euphoric and sedative effects.

Dygson, 48, and Castro, 34, were accused of smuggling the drug between August 2023 and June, and the Manhattan US Attorney’s office charged them on June 17 with conspiracy to distribute a controlled narcotic.

If convicted, they risk a 20-year prison sentence.

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton warned that a single dose of GBL may be fatal, referring to it as “liquid poison”.

According to his lawyer, Daniel McGuinness, Castro has pleaded not guilty. “It’s very early in the process, but he is very eager to clear his name and prove his innocence,” he replied.

The government claimed to have company documents and evidence from sources that allegedly confirm Castro’s culpability, according to the attorney.

“We look to see that information and see where everything went wrong in their believing that my client is involved in this activity,” he stated.
