Kidnapped Teen Found Inside Dryer After Calling 911 to Report Abduction, Police Say

A Florida man faces multiple charges after police discovered a teenager allegedly hidden inside a clothes dryer at his home over the weekend.

Christopher Michael Veit, 53, was charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor and several other offenses after officers rescued the teen from a Key Largo, Fla. residence Sunday, June 21, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Authorities transported the teen to the hospital before transferring her to the custody of a family member.

Investigators say the teen called 911 Saturday morning accusing Veit of holding her against her will. Responding officers found her inside the dryer. Authorities allege Veit restrained her, forced her into the dryer and confiscated her phone when she tried to leave.

It wasn’t immediately clear how Veit knew the alleged victim, who is not from Florida.

Police allege Veit had engaged in “ongoing sexual activity” with the juvenile.

Officers also allegedly found sheets of counterfeit currency at the residence and notified the U.S. Secret Service.

Veit faces charges of kidnapping/false imprisonment, interference with child custody and unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Court records for this case were not available online.
