Missing northern Kentucky man discovered dead in Europe

A man reported missing from northern Kentucky was discovered dead in Europe.

On June 22, the Covington Police Department in Kentucky reported that 64-year-old Todd E. Garland was missing. His employer, Roebling Books and Coffee, reported on June 21 that Garland had not been seen since June 9.

Covington police stated that they contacted Garland “in connection with a criminal investigation” on June 10. Police eventually determined that Garland flew from the United States to Paris, France, the next day.

The details of the “criminal investigation” have not been made public.

On Wednesday, June 24, Homeland Security agents called the Covington Police Department after discovering Garland’s death on Tuesday.

“The Paris Police Prefecture is investigating his death, and we have no further information regarding the circumstances,” Covington police said in a news release.

“Todd has been located, but the outcome was not what we had hoped for. Please be patient with our team as we deal with this grief. “Thank you,” Roebling Books and Coffee said on social media Wednesday.

A GoFundMe effort was launched to bring Garland’s remains home.

“Todd’s soul was too gentle for this planet. The hole he left in this town will never be filled, but the space he has in our hearts will always be full,” the GoFundMe states. The grief of losing him is excruciating, and the distance just adds to our heartbreak as we struggle to bring him home to Kentucky.”
