A wanted fugitive linked to many crimes in Mississippi is now in behind bars.
Justin Tyler Marcum was arrested on Buffalo Road in Woodville on July 23, after fleeing police for several months. The Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office, Woodville Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Office, and the Angola Chase Team all worked together to catch Marcum. O.J. Packnett, a Wilkinson County deputy, and L. Rutledge, the Woodville Police Chief, led the successful investigation.
Marcum is charged with a number of serious offenses, including burglary, motor vehicle theft, assault, resisting arrest, and two counts of felon in possession of a handgun. He was also wanted for outstanding warrants in Adams and Franklin counties. Adams County authorities have already placed a hold on him, and they expect more charges to come.
Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten applauded the officers’ unwavering determination, noting that crossing county lines does not protect fugitives from prosecution.
“This arrest is another reminder that no matter how long it takes, law enforcement will continue working together to bring fugitives to justice,” Sheriff Patten stated. “Because of the professionalism, determination, and teamwork displayed by everyone involved, several communities across Southwest Mississippi can rest a little easier tonight knowing this dangerous fugitive is no longer on our streets.”
Marcum remains in detention as surrounding agencies coordinate their ongoing investigations.
