Meigs County 2019 General Election results

POMEROY, Ohio – Meigs County turned out to vote on three county wide issues and various other contests in the 2019 General Election.

Meigs County voted in the general election on November 5. Of the 14,814 registered voters in Meigs County, 4,808 voted for a total of 32.46 percent showing up at the polls. There are 38 provisional ballots and approximately 54 absentee ballots. The provisional ballots will be counted during the official count at 1 p.m. on November 18, at the Meigs County Board of Elections. The absentee ballots generally are already in to the Election Board if there are going to be submitted.

Of the various races, the Middleport Mayor’s race is the closest with just nine votes separating incumbent Sandy Iannarelli from the unofficial winner, Fred Hoffman. There are only two provisional ballots for Middleport, therefore, Hoffman should be the official winner of the Middleport Mayor’s race once the official ballots are counted.

Rutland will also have a new mayor as Tyler Eblin was elected to the position.

Throughout the county, voters passed local fire protection and cemetery levies. While a levy for 911 passed, voters rejected a levy for the Meigs Historical Society Museum and the Animal Shelter.

While voters used new equipment which consisted of a touch screen to vote, most voters seemed to find a lack of privacy while trying to vote. Election official said that would be addressed for the 2020 Primary in March.
