A 29-year-old man is dead after colliding head-on with a tractor-trailer early Saturday morning, according to Streetsboro police.
Around 2:30 a.m., Streetsboro police, fire, and EMS arrived to the 10300 block of State Route 43 after getting a call from the 55-year-old truck driver, who reported being involved in a head-on crash, according to police.
According to authorities, a 29-year-old Kent man driving a Nissan Altima southbound on SR 43 went left of center and collided head on with the tractor-trailer in a 50 mph zone.
The truck driver reported a fire in the engine compartment, but it was extinguished shortly after officials arrived, according to police.
The 29-year-old driver was pronounced dead on the scene, and police said his vehicle sustained “catastrophic damage.”
According to police, the truck driver was frightened but not injured. The tractor-trailer sustained significant damage.
A portion of SR 43 was closed while the Summit Metro Crash team conducted its initial investigation, and it was reopened around 7:40 a.m., police said.
The crash is still under investigation, and the 29-year-old’s name is being withheld until notification of relatives.
