Police described the discovery of a dismembered woman’s remains at a Georgia apartment complex as a “shocking” and “particularly gruesome crime.”
Kingston Bradley, an 18-year-old resident of the apartment complex, faces charges of malice murder and concealing the death of another, authorities announced Friday. He remains in custody at the Cobb County jail without bond.
Investigators identified the victim as Shanteria Mosley, whom friends and family knew as “KT.” Officers discovered her remains Wednesday evening at the Park Valley Apartments in Smyrna.
On Friday, detectives executed a search warrant on a vehicle and found garbage bags in the trunk, according to a police news release. “One garbage was pulled tightly showing the outline of a body part,” the release stated. The Cobb County Medical Examiner confirmed the bag contained human body parts.
Lt. Meredith Holt, public information officer for the Smyrna Police Department, confirmed the murder investigation remains “active and ongoing.” “We are continuing to do interviews to see if there are any other possible suspects that could be out there,” Holt told reporters during a Friday press briefing.
Authorities are investigating potential connections between Mosley and Bradley, though Bradley has declined to provide statements to investigators, Holt said. “We have issued multiple search warrants and continuing to do a lot of interviews,” she noted. “We are looking at multiple different types of evidence, at multiple different types of possible scenes, and through that we are following any lead that we have.”
During an earlier briefing, Holt confirmed investigators continue searching for additional remains. “This is a shocking crime. I don’t know how else to describe it,” Holt stated. “I’ve been in law enforcement for 25 years, and I have been a part of multiple homicide cases, and I worked crimes against children for 16 years, and this is a particularly gruesome crime.”
Several individuals believe they may be related to the victim, Holt said. DNA testing was underway “to get an absolute confirmation,” she added.
Family members reported a missing person whose phone and vehicle were located at the Park Valley Apartments, Holt explained. An officer responded to the complex Wednesday evening, knocked on multiple doors, and conducted interviews before departing after approximately 30 minutes, she said. The officer reportedly advised the family to file a missing person report with Atlanta police, as that city was the last known location where she had been seen.
Roughly 30 minutes after the officer’s departure, officers returned to the apartment complex to initiate the homicide investigation, police confirmed.
