Three people, including two Los Angeles Fire Department members, received hospital treatment following a fire that broke out in the Westlake neighborhood on Saturday afternoon, according to officials. One of the firefighters had been struck by a vehicle.
Crews responded to a reported outside fire that quickly extended into a two-story apartment building, a house and a recreational vehicle near 525 South Union Avenue, just west of downtown Los Angeles, around 1 p.m., according to the LAFD.
During the incident, officials say that a man who was rescued from one of the structures and a responding LAFD member who was hit by a vehicle were taken to the hospital.
The LAFD said it achieved a knockdown in less than an hour after the 911 call. Afterward, another LAFD member was taken to the emergency room due to an undisclosed medical emergency.
Details about the three people’s injuries were not released, but the department said they were all stable.
According to the LAFD, two residential units were deemed uninhabitable, and at least eight people were displaced. The American Red Cross was helping those displaced find temporary shelter.
Around 60 firefighters worked during the incident’s peak, with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and the Los Angeles Police Department assisting.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
