A missing person investigation has turned into a homicide case when the Adams County Sheriff’s Office recovered human remains believed to be those of Felicia Bates, who went missing on September 13.
Police charged Natchez resident Albert Kendall Washington, 50, with first-degree murder.
Following the discovery, law enforcement tracked Washington to a Motel 6 in Monroe, Louisiana. When officers arrived, Washington barricaded himself inside his room, prompting an intervention from the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, which eventually apprehended him. He is currently being jailed in Louisiana, awaiting extradition to Mississippi.
The finding happened after an exhaustive multi-agency search utilizing specialist cadaver dogs from Team Texas K9s and the United Cajun Navy, alongside local and state law enforcement partners.
Sheriff Travis Patten noted the terrible turn in the investigation, offering sympathies to the victim’s family and gratitude to the community and partner organizations involved. He stated that, while recovering the remains provides a way to closure, deputies would continue to gather evidence to support the case.
The inquiry is ongoing, and investigators underscore that Washington is believed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
