An Indianapolis man will serve over a century in prison for a mass shooting that killed a woman and injured five others on Christmas Day.
Dauzon Garzon received a 117-year sentence on Thursday for the 2024 shooting that killed Ana Paredes Teran. Following a three-day trial in August, a Marion County jury convicted Garzon of murder, four charges of aggravated battery, and five counts of battery with a deadly weapon. Garzon also pled guilty to a firearm sentence enhancement.
“Ana was an innocent woman who died on Christmas Day, a time when families should be together,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears stated. “Her loved ones are left suffering a loss that never should have occurred, while four other victims continue to bear the effects of one person’s decision to use a firearm. Today, the offender has been sentenced to over a century in prison for the havoc he wreaked.”
The shooting took place on December 25 at a home in the 6400 block of Meadowlark Drive. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived on location and discovered many people with gunshot wounds. Witnesses said authorities Garzon was the shooter, and officers discovered him trying to hide nearby.
Survivors told detectives that Garzon began arguing with another person during a party inside the residence. The disagreement turned violent before Garzon pulled out a gun and began shooting, according to court filings. Teran was killed by gunshot, and five other partygoers were critically injured.
