Woman sentenced to prison in connection with drug overdose death in The Villages

A woman is facing state prison after a man died of an apparent drug overdose at a residence in The Villages.

Amanda Rose Kitchin, 32, of Leesburg, was found guilty of cocaine trafficking this week in Sumter County Court. She has been sentenced to seven years of state prison.

In November 2022, emergency services were called to a property in Tierra Del Sol North, where a “25-year-old male who was obviously deceased” was discovered, according to an arrest record from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A little foil wrapper containing an off-white powdered substance was discovered beside the deceased man. The drug tested positively for fentanyl.

A deputy searched the dead man’s phone and discovered the name “Amanda.” It was assumed that the name alluded to Kitchin, who had been captured in Wildwood the year before.

Deputies discovered Kitchin days later in a Wawa parking lot on U.S. Highway 441 in Lady Lake. She was in her mother’s gray Honda SUV. Members of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Squad surrounded the vehicle and demanded her to exit. Kitchin was found with “a small silver wrapper,” which tested positive for fentanyl. It was identical to the foil wrapper seen beside the deceased man in The Villages a few days prior, and more silver wrappers were discovered inside the SUV.
