Central Florida Traffic Stop Led to Arrest of Wanted Suspect

A Central Florida traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a wanted suspect.

According to local law enforcement, the Lake Wales man who had been on the run since 2023 was apprehended and transported to the Polk County jail following a traffic stop for broken tail lights.

A Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputy recently stopped a white Ford Ranger on Rifle Range Road and State Road 60, south of Wahneta. The driver was identified as 42-year-old Thomas Kenneth James of Lake Wales, who promptly confirmed to the deputy that his license had been suspended. A background check by the deputy revealed that James’ license had been suspended since 2008.

According to the PCSO, James had an active Polk County warrant from 2023 for armed kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and felony battery.

After being brought into custody, Thomas informed the deputy that he intended to leave the traffic stop, but when he noticed a second deputy’s patrol vehicle approaching, he opted to cooperate instead.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas James was booked into the Sheriff’s Processing Center on his warrant and charged with driving while license suspended/revoked.
