A 74-year-old Lady Lake man was detained for refusing to turn down his loud music.
A neighbor called 911 at 11 p.m. Saturday to complain about loud music coming from Paul Gordon Hardy’s home at 37326 Happy Lane, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The woman stated that loud music has been “an ongoing issue” and is played at such an “excessive level” that it makes it difficult for her and her children to sleep. She signed a sworn statement stating her willingness to have Hardy prosecuted.
A deputy approached Hardy, who originally said he would turn down the music, which the deputy characterized as “ice cream truck style music.” Rather than turning down the level, Hardy, who is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 275 pounds, “began spewing profanities” and remained in his front yard, shining a flashlight into the road. The deputy continued to ask Hardy to turn down the music, which made him “angrier.”
The deputy gave Hardy a summons to appear in court on the accusation of excessive noise, but he refused to sign it. He was arrested for refusing to sign a law enforcement citation. He was brought into jail and placed into the Lake County Jail. He was released after paying a $500 bond.
In 2016, Hardy was caught for drunk driving with open bottles of Canadian Premium Whiskey in his truck.
