Akron man Antoine D. Cook will be trading city streets for a jail cell after being sentenced to 35 years for drug distribution and ammunition possession. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, Cook received this harsh sentenced after a federal jury found him guilty of distributing methamphetamine and cocaine and unlawfully sheltering an ammunition hoard.

Cook, 46, was convicted of three felonies stemming from an arrest on May 1, 2024. Authorities captured him with large quantities of meth and cocaine, ready to hit the streets of Northeast Ohio. His prior record, which included serious misdemeanors and felonies, played an important part in significantly raising his sentence. Despite a career marred by marital abuse and severe assault, Cook’s last venture in distribution earned him his lengthy prison sentence.

During the sentencing, U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent not only sentenced Cook to decades in prison but also ordered an extra eight years of supervised release. It’s a long cry from the lifestyle Cook might have imagined, as seen by the seriousness of his charges—one for methamphetamine and cocaine distribution and another for a felon in possession of ammunition.

The evidence produced during the trial created a clear picture of Cook’s illicit activities. According to the United States Attorney’s Office, he was captured red-handed with 25 grams of meth, three grams of cocaine, and more than 80 rounds of ammunition. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Ohio Adult Parole Authority worked together to bring Cook to justice and make a big dent in the local illegal drug supply chain.

Assistant United States Attorney Peter E. Daly, who prosecuted the case, has most certainly given a strong message to individuals involved in the drug trade that the longevity of one’s illicit operations may simply lead to a long term bereft of liberties once taken for granted. Time will tell whether Cook’s narrative serves as a deterrent or simply another chapter in the history of Northeast Ohio’s criminal operations.
