Two men are facing charges after deputies in Maryland said they stole thousands of dollars’ worth of products from a Home Depot in Waldorf during an organized theft scheme that spanned numerous times throughout the summer.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, between July 1 and July 31, Darrell Anderson, 63, of Washington, and Clifton Ratliff, 58, of Temple Hills, allegedly loaded high-value items such as flooring, molding, sinks, lighting materials, and a refrigerator onto carts and used forged paperwork to make it appear that the items were already paid for.

Detectives from the Neighborhood Enforcement Team identified Anderson as one of the suspected thieves and observed him at the store on September 9 as he reportedly prepared to steal again. He was apprehended without incident, and a search of his vehicle revealed evidence related to previous thefts.

Ratliff was booked into the Charles County Detention Center but was released the same day on a $2,000 bond.

Ratliff was arrested on October 16 following further investigation. He was eventually released on personal recognizance.

The sheriff’s office said it is currently collaborating with other law enforcement organizations to determine whether Anderson and Ratliff are linked to similar thefts in nearby locations.
