One Person Deceased Following Explosion Near Harrisonville

HARRISONVILLE, Ohio – One person has died following the explosion near Harrisonville yesterday.

According to Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood, on August 26, 2022 the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the explosion of a homemade explosive device near Scipio Township in Meigs County. It was previously described as a pipe bomb.

It was previously reported that an individual had sustained serious injuries due to the explosion. The individual has unfortunately succumbed to his wounds. The name of the person was not released by law enforcement.

According to Sheriff Wood, The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was contacted on August 26 just after the incident took place. The ATF responded to Meigs County and is currently investigating the incident. A search warrant was executed on Kingsbury Road and the incident remains under investigation. Officers are in contact with the Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office regarding charges.

Sheriff Wood would like to thank the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, The Washington County Sheriff’s Office SRT, The Major Crimes Task Force, Meigs County EMS, and all who is assisting in the case.

There is no danger to the public and more information will be released as it is made available.
