A Seattle woman has been sentenced to over a year in prison after pleading guilty to felony DUI in Clallam County Superior Court.
Engre Brown was sentenced by Judge Brent Basden to more than 12 months in prison, followed by a year of community custody with mandatory substance abuse treatment and a driving prohibition.
According to court records, on May 11, a Washington State Patrol Trooper observed Brown traveling at about 100 mph on Highway 101 near Carlsborg. He then encountered her at the Highway 101 and Carlsborg Road crossroads, where she was visibly impaired and had a can of White Claw hard seltzer in her car. A blood test revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.21%, more than double the legal limit.
Prosecutors cited Brown’s extensive history of intoxicated driving, which included a 2008 vehicular homicide conviction for a crash on Highway 101 near Kitchen-Dick Road, as well as a prior DUI conviction and two gross misdemeanors charged as DUIs.
According to Washington’s sentencing guidelines, Brown faced 12 to 14 months in jail. Judge Basden sentenced her to the lower end of the range, with extra community custody requirements.
