An Anchorage woman was detained on Sunday for allegedly delivering prohibited contraband to an inmate during a visit to Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward, according to an Alaska Department of Public Safety dispatch.

Troopers said the incident occurred on October 5 at about 1:38 p.m., when 18-year-old Nalee Chao of Anchorage paid a visit to convict Charles Sadler, 26, also of Anchorage. Alaska State Troopers (AST) and Spring Creek Correctional Center staff were already conducting a joint investigation into the visit.

According to the transmission, investigators saw Chao handing contraband to Sadler during the visit. She was taken into custody at the institution and transported to Wildwood Pre-Trial Institution, where she was remanded on accusations of first-degree contraband promotion and fourth-degree misconduct with controlled substances.

Troopers said Sadler, who was already in jail, was charged with Promoting Contraband in the First Degree, Misconduct Involving Controlled Substances in the Fourth Degree, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

The inquiry is still ongoing, according to the Department of Public Safety. AST also expressed gratitude to Spring Creek Correctional Center for its “ongoing partnership in this investigation and many others on a regular basis.”
