The inmate who escaped from the Northeast Regional Corrections Center (NERCC) has been apprehended. According to officials, law enforcement executed a search warrant at 240 NW 8th Avenue in Cohasset, Minnesota, around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7.

Michael Todd Hart, 40, of Hibbing, was booked into NERCC for felony burglary, misdemeanor domestic assault, and fifth-degree assault. He escaped from NERCC on September 23.

According to the report, personnel of the Lake Superior Violent Offenders Task Force (LSVOTF), St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Aitkin Itasca Mille Lacs VCET, and Itasca County Sheriff’s Office worked together to serve the search warrant. Members of the LSVOTF had been seeking Hart on the Iron Range since his initial escape.

The search warrant led law enforcement to a Cohasset residence, where they discovered Hart under the stairs. Hart refused to comply. Hart was arrested when law police used a pepper ball on him. He remained obstinate after being handcuffed and assaulted deputies at the site.

Devon Shackelton has also been arrested for helping an offender. The two are being held at the Itasca County Jail pending arraignment on new charges stemming from the incident.
