A 16-year-old was shot dead, and a 15-year-old was detained in Orlando after a fight broke out at school.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting on the basketball court at Vogt-Meloon Park on West Oak Ridge Road. Pinien Dalmacy, 16, has died, and Jacori Redding, 15, has made a decision that could wreck his life. Both were sophomores in high school.

Witnesses on the scene reported that Redding had run into Dalmacy on campus at Oak Ridge High School earlier that day. Dalmacy begged Redding to apologize, but he refused, so the two sophomores decided to fight after school at the park, according to local officials.

“My heart aches for Pinien’s family, who are grieving this unimaginable loss,” said Orange County Sheriff John Mina. “And I’m angry that something as small as bumping into someone in the halls of a high school can result in a shooting death.”

Following the shooting, Jacori rushed back onto the Oak Ridge High School campus, where SRO Deputy Nelson Rodriguez promptly coordinated with school officials, and Jacori Redding was apprehended in the cafeteria.

The gun was discovered in his backpack, according to local law enforcement.

Jacori Redding was arrested, and a juvenile detention order was issued for manslaughter with a firearm and possessing a firearm on school grounds.

Detectives are aware that there were witnesses to the incident and that video footage may be available that might aid the investigation. They are requesting anyone with such knowledge to call OCSO.
