The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that a clerk was arrested on a warrant for unauthorized access to computer systems or networks.

According to a news release, the arrest stemmed from an investigation that began on October 1 when the sheriff’s office received charges that Hannah Colon, 30, was abusing her access to restricted law enforcement databases. She was assigned as a clerk in the Criminal Investigations division and accessed critical databases on her allotted desktop computer outside of her job responsibilities.

The investigation revealed that Colon had been inappropriately accessing the datasets since 2023. A search warrant was conducted on her assigned computer, which resulted in the issuing of an arrest warrant, officers stated.

According to a probable cause document, several coworkers had concerns about Colon’s behavior, including her interactions with a homicide detective while wearing Meta AI glasses capable of recording. Colon was allegedly Facebook friends with a suspect in two Lake County homicides.

During a recorded interview on October 8, Colon admitted to utilizing law enforcement databases to do searches on individuals related to her personal matters, including her spouse’s ex-wife and her husband, for no legitimate work-related reasons, according to the affidavit.

On October 9, Colon turned herself in and was charged with two counts of unlawful access to a computer system or network.

She was booked into the Lake County Jail on a $2,500 bond and placed on unpaid leave until the completion of the inquiry.
