A 20-year-old man is accused of kidnapping and viciously assaulting a woman while she slept at a Miami bus stop, according to police reports.

It happened around 10:15 p.m. Monday, near Northwest 12th Avenue.

According to the arrest report, the victim told authorities she was sleeping on a bus bench when she was startled awake by a man punching her many times in the face.

Police claimed the attacker, Tyler Anthony Carter of Miami Gardens, then grabbed the woman’s neck and choked her until she passed out.

When the woman recovered consciousness, she told officers that Carter took her from the bus bench to a nearby grassy area and proceeded to attack her, according to the report.

The woman claimed he grabbed her neck again, attempted to break it, and choked her until she lost consciousness a second time, according to the report.

According to police, the victim eventually managed to free herself and run for help.

They stated a be-on-the-lookout alert had been issued for Carter, who was observed escaping north on Northwest 12th Avenue.

After being detained, detectives reported that Carter willingly decided to proceed to the police station, where he was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak without an attorney.

According to police, he confessed but denied punching the woman in the publicly released report.

They also stated that the woman was unable to identify her attacker in a photo lineup, claiming she could not see his face clearly during the assault.

Carter was arrested and placed at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. According to jail records, he faces one count of kidnapping and battery by strangulation and was being held without bond as of Tuesday afternoon.
