Police arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the death of a woman whose body was discovered on Hollywood Beach’s sand the day after Christmas.

According to the Hollywood Police Department, officers arrived at Cleveland Street on the sand soon after 7 a.m. on December 26 after receiving reports of a deceased woman. Heather Asendorf, 56, was pronounced deceased at the scene, and authorities believe there was foul play.

Four days later, on December 30, Hollywood Police stated they captured Brandon McCray at a residence on North 17th Court, with the assistance of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force. McCray is charged with two counts of sexual battery, kidnapping, and battery by strangulation.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, but there is no indication of a greater threat to the community.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hollywood Police Department Detective Bureau at (954) 967-4636 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-8477.
