Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect in the theft of a school bus from Newton Middle School early this morning. The bus was later discovered in Merryville and returned by school officials.
According to the Newton ISD Police Department, the crime occurred at 2:40 a.m., when the suspect stole the vacant bus with an accomplice in another vehicle. The matter is being investigated by Newton ISD Police, with assistance from detectives in Beauregard and Vernon parishes, as it may be linked to earlier bus thefts in Vernon Parish. The department has collected surveillance footage and is following up on leads.
