Man Taken Into Custody In Central Florida For Impersonating Law Enforcement

A man was taken into custody in Central Florida for impersonating law enforcement.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the man after he impersonated a law enforcement official by turning on his vehicle’s red and blue emergency lights while traveling across Hillsborough County.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office alerted deputies about a strange vehicle, described as a black Chevy Equinox with red and blue lights, that had entered Hillsborough County in January.

Another car mistook the lights for a police stop and subsequent pull-over.

At 1:21pm, deputies performed a traffic check near Dale Mabry Highway and Ehrlich Road. Gamal Said, 28, later acknowledged activating the lights to get to work faster, according to local law officials.

“Falsely presenting as law enforcement is a serious offense that jeopardizes public safety,” stated Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Anyone who abuses that trust will be held accountable, and we encourage drivers to call 911 if they are ever unsure about a traffic stop.”

Gamal Said was arrested and charged with unlawful use of blue light, impersonating a public officer, and two out-of-county warrants for probation breaches relating to a burglary of an unoccupied building.

Detectives are requesting anyone who believes they were pulled over or directed to stop by Said prior to his arrest to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at (813) 247-8200.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to law enforcement officials.
