41 illegal guns Confiscate in Southwestern Pennsylvania in January

The Pennsylvania Attorney General reports that a record number of guns are being taken off the local streets.

Dave Sunday stated Monday that 41 guns were confiscated in January in Allegheny, Fayette, Somerset, and Westmoreland counties. According to agents, this could be the region’s highest single-month total.

According to the AG’s office, the majority of the gun recoveries occurred outside of Pittsburgh. Investigators said the two largest seizures were in Fayette and Somerset counties.

Guns were not the only items confiscated. More than 12 pounds of cocaine and 63,000 dosages of fentanyl were confiscated as well.

“When we look at the guns on this table and we talk about the drugs that were seized, I want people to remember that these were guns that were possessed by individuals that were trafficking illegal drugs,” Sunday stated during a presser. “And it’s some of the most unbelievably dangerous work that a police officer can do.”

The AG’s office reports that nine people have been arrested in connection with 20 cases involving illegally held guns.

The AG’s office estimates that 48 weapons will be confiscated in the region in 2026.
