COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police arrested and charged an 18-year-old man in connection with a deadly shooting in southwest Columbus on Thursday night.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1500 block of Autumn Village Drive near Harrisburg Pike.
When first responders arrived, they found 18-year-old Kamarcus Sowell-Butler with a gunshot wound, police said. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene at 10:15 p.m.
Police said officers detained a suspect identified as 18-year-old Damien Grier. Homicide detectives carried out a preliminary investigation and charged Grier with murder in connection to the shooting.
According to Franklin County Municipal Court documents, Sowell-Butler was inside a bedroom with several people, including Grier. The documents state that Grier fired a gun, and Sowell-Butler was hit by the gunfire.
Authorities booked Grier into the Franklin County jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday morning.
