A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody Tuesday after Akron police said detectives recovered a stolen handgun during an investigation near a local school.
According to a press release, detectives were carrying out surveillance at East CLC after receiving a tip that a teenager had hidden a gun near the school.
Detectives attempted to stop the teen in the 1800 block of Shaw Avenue.
Police said officers caught him after a brief chase.
Detectives recovered a stolen Smith & Wesson .40-caliber handgun from the teen’s waistband at the time of the arrest, police said.
Authorities booked the juvenile into the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
Officials have not released his identity because of his age. He faces charges that include carrying a concealed weapon and theft.
