Police filed a report Monday after a woman told officers she believed a man tried to fraudulently buy a home.
According to police, the victim lives out of state and was attempting to sell a house on Harrington Avenue in Boardman through a local company.
The woman said she received a cash offer matching the $325,000 asking price, along with proof of funds from the buyer. After workers removed all furniture and prepared the home for move-in, reports state the man never delivered payment after the ownership documents were signed.
The woman also said she believed the documents submitted during the process were fraudulent. She later discovered that a man with the same name had created several GoFundMe accounts asking people for money.
No money was taken in this case, but the woman requested a report due to the suspicious circumstances.
