33-Year-Old Dirt Bike Rider Dies in Collision With Pittsburgh Transit Bus in Homewood, authorities say

A dirt bike rider died Saturday evening after crashing into a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood, according to authorities.

The collision happened around 5:55 p.m. at the intersection of Brushton and Frankstown avenues.

A 33-year-old Pittsburgh man was killed Saturday evening after his dirt bike collided with a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus in the city’s Homewood neighborhood.

According to preliminary information, an 86-Liberty bus was traveling through the intersection when it collided with a dirt bike. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the dirt bike rider dead at the scene.

On Sunday morning, the Allegheny County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 33-year-old Deshawn Davis of Pittsburgh.

“He was riding his bike, and the bus was like, already crossing the road, and [the rider] just went straight into it,” said 12-year-old Chandler Thomas, who witnessed the crash from the front seat of his mother’s food truck, “Momma-licious,” parked about a half block away. “I was just in shock. I was speechless.”

For his mother, Tracy Hall, the experience was equally devastating.

“Just standing there watching his body not move, my heart just broke,” Hall said. “It’s a tragedy, I pray to God; God comfort this family.”

The victim remained under a sheet beside a green dirt bike on the street for several hours after the crash.

“I didn’t know what to think, I didn’t know what to do at the time. I mean, like I’m really, really [having] a hard time right now,” Thomas said.

He added that his mother was struggling as well.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be the same, because I’ve never seen a dead body before,” Hall said.

Hall told KDKA-TV that she hopes to teach her son the importance of always exercising caution while riding bikes.

Officials have not confirmed whether anyone aboard the bus was injured in the collision. Authorities also told KDKA-TV that city surveillance cameras captured footage of the incident.

As of Saturday evening, investigators had not released any additional details about the circumstances surrounding the crash. Pittsburgh Regional Transit police continue to investigate the incident.
