Woman accused of aiding local teen’s convicted murderer receives prison sentence

A woman who’s accused of aiding a local teen’s convicted murderer received prison sentence.

On February 19, Chayla Robinson, 45, pled guilty to one count of impeding arrest or prosecution. On Friday, a judge sentenced her to between one and seven years behind bars.

Prosecutors say Robinson drove the getaway car for Howard Hawkins, who was found guilty of killing and shooting 18-year-old Ahmir Tuli in February 2021. He was condemned to life in prison.

According to court records, Robinson was Hawkins’ girlfriend.

Ahmir, a recent North Hills High School graduate, was on break from his job at Preeti’s Pitt Restaurant and Bar in Pittsburgh’s Strip District when Hawkins allegedly shot him. Hawkins allegedly had an altercation and was asked to leave the restaurant prior to the shooting.

Preeti Pitt is owned by Ahmir’s mother, Preeti Tuli.

Preeti Tuli praised Robinson’s sentencing on social media on Friday, calling it “justice.”

“Now that I’ve achieved justice for my lovely baby boy, everything feels so unreal. I am excited to finally put this chapter behind me.”
