Police: 6 Killed In Iowa Shooting Spree In Domestic Dispute

Six people were killed in a shooting spree at multiple locations across an Iowa city in an apparent domestic dispute, according to police.

The accused gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while authorities confronted him, according to police.

Police reported a “series of homicides” on Monday at two residences and a business in Muscatine. At a press event on Monday, Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies remarked, “I simply do not have the words to describe this act of evil and what it has done to our community.”

Police say four of the victims were slain in one home. The incident occurred around 12:12 p.m. local time Monday, according to the Muscatine Police Department. First responders discovered all four people dead on the site.

Police identified the suspect as Ryan Willis McFarland, 52, of Muscatine, and said he fled the home before police arrived. Officers found him nearby on a walk beside the Mississippi River.Kies stated that Ryan Willis McFarland committed suicide while speaking with him. “Officers and EMS personnel provided assistance. However, he was pronounced dead on the scene.”

During the inquiry, officers discovered two men who had died from apparent gunshot wounds. Authorities reported finding one at another home and the other at a neighboring business.The Muscatine Police Department stated in a press statement that preliminary findings indicate the gunshots were caused by a domestic disagreement. “All victims are believed to be family members of the deceased suspect.”

Police have not published the victims’ names or ages.

The police chief stated that the suspect has a criminal background, but did not elaborate. Kies stated that the community faces no active threat.

The homicides remain under investigation.
