A Pennsylvania couple has been charged with allegedly keeping over $30,000 in insurance payments meant for ambulance services.
According to WPXI, Stacy and Wallace Hodge are accused of failing to transfer insurance payments for 23 ambulance transports made by the Shaler-Hampton EMS department from February 2025 to February 2026. Investigators say the pair received reimbursement payments from Highmark Insurance but never paid the EMS agency.
According to Shaler-Hampton EMS personnel, the problem is more than just one case. In 2025, the organization reported 105 occurrences in which patients withheld insurance money meant for ambulance services, resulting in over $150,000 in revenue loss.
EMS leaders support legislation that would require insurers to reimburse EMS providers immediately within 45 days of service.
