Nintendo Announces The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake for Later This Year

We can officially say that the summer of gaming has come to a close — we were only waiting on the Nintendo Direct to air, and it turned out to be far better than most of us expected. Among the many surprises set to send Xenoblade and Fire Emblem fans into a frenzy, one announcement caught us particularly off guard: a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. For a game this iconic, most would assume something like this was still years away. But they’d be wrong — because this remake is happening, and it’s arriving later this year.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Announced for 2026

While the teaser was brief, it was more than enough to get fans on their feet cheering for this legendary title to finally receive the remake treatment it deserves. As confirmed in the video, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is launching sometime in 2026. Yes, that’s just a release window with nothing set in stone, but knowing it’s coming this year is a welcome surprise in itself.

Looking at how the gaming landscape is shaping up for the rest of 2026, it’s reasonable to think this title could launch ahead of GTA 6 — something dozens of other games are strategically doing — or later in the holiday season, which would also make sense for those who haven’t yet picked up a Nintendo Switch 2. These are purely speculations, though, and Nintendo has yet to reveal its plans for this beloved title.

Unfortunately, that was all Nintendo chose to share during the show. There was no gameplay footage, no look at the combat systems, and no in-game visuals showing how this reimagining will actually look. Even so, it’s exciting to see one of the most iconic entries in the Legend of Zelda series finally making its way to modern platforms with a long-overdue visual refresh.

Despite the absence of a firm release date, fans of the series are overjoyed — many have spent years hoping Ocarina of Time would eventually get the remake treatment. That said, a hint of skepticism lingers, as the game’s beloved status has plenty of fans wondering what Nintendo might change when this new version arrives later in 2026. Even so, the excitement is undeniable, and many can’t wait to relive this ’90s classic.
