Suspect arrested after crash along Loop 375

A person was arrested on Monday, June 8, following a car crash and police reaction on Loop 375 and Sergeant Major Boulevard. Loop 375 in that area is also known as “Liberty Expressway (Spur 601).”

According to El Paso Police Department spokesperson Judy Oviedo, officers were sent at 10:43 a.m. after receiving a complaint of a car accident near Purple Heart Highway and Liberty Expressway.

When cops got on the site, they discovered a person inside a vehicle armed with a firearm. An officer on the scene requested more units for aid.

“The officer did feel that additional assistance was needed,” Oviedo replied.

The incident concluded when the suspect was apprehended after being bitten by a police K-9. There were no injuries reported among law enforcement personnel.

All north and southbound lanes on Loop 375 were closed, according to the Texas Department of Transportation in El Paso.

Authorities have not given any additional information on the suspect or the circumstances of the incident.

Police say Loop 375, which was closed throughout the response, will return to traffic.
