A 61-year-old Clermont resident is now a multimillionaire after cashing in a big winning lottery ticket.
Primitivo Batista won the $21.5 million Florida Lotto prize in the February 4 drawing. He handed his winning ticket to the Lottery’s Orlando District Office only five days later, on February 9.
Batista elected to accept his earnings in a single lump sum rather than in annual payments. That option results in his walking away with exactly $11,750,158.50.
The lucky ticket was purchased directly in his hometown. Batista bought it in the Clermont BJ’s Wholesale Club, 2577 S. U.S. Highway 27.
The Florida Lottery has been in operation since 1988. Over the years, the game has awarded over $11 billion in prizes and made 1,108 people millionaires. Additionally, ticket sales have raised more than $8.63 billion to benefit Florida’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
