Authorities are investigating after the remains of an unidentified man were discovered in a wooded area near Elkhart on Wednesday afternoon.
Elkhart County Homicide Unit discovered the remains on the 2600 block of Links Drive around 2:30 p.m. Elkhart City 911 Communications Center got a report of a body in the woods, prompting an emergency reaction from Elkhart Police Department officers and other first responders. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a slightly decomposed male body in the woods.
Investigators say the man has yet to be identified.
The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated in accordance with policy and has taken charge of the investigation. Authorities classified the matter as an ongoing death investigation.
