An Altoona man apprehended after an hours-long standoff with police that began around 1:30 a.m.
Patrick McIntire Jr., 21, was identified by Altoona police Wednesday as the suspect who allegedly threatened his family with a shotgun.
According to police, they arrived at a home in the 700 block of South 7th Street at 1:30 a.m. after a victim was able to leave and phone 911. Officers established a cordon around the residence while obtaining additional information, including McIntire’s identification. He allegedly threatened to shoot anyone who came to the house, including the police.
Pleasant Valley Boulevard and nearby streets were then closed as a precaution while police attempted to reach McIntire. McIntire, on the other hand, did not respond to any form of communication, leaving authorities to continue surveilling and investigating as the Tactical Response Team gathered at the scene.
Communication attempts continued until the morning hours.
According to the allegations, officers spoke with the victim, who claimed McIntire was accusing him of child trafficking, and returned to the room with a shotgun and a black mask over his face.
A shot was fired from within the home around 9:30 a.m., according to Altoona police. Officers saw a man lying on the floor and made contact with him inside the residence. According to authorities, the individual on the floor was McIntire, who was not wounded.
McIntire has been brought into custody. Police reported that the shot looked to have been fired upward through the ceiling.
“The shot went up through the ceiling, to the roof,” Altoona Police Sergeant Dusten Thompson said. “So I’m not sure what he was trying to do with that shot, but no one was hurt. “Including the suspect and officers.”
There were no cops wounded during the event.
McIntire is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault by physical menace, and other offenses stemming from the early morning encounter. There will be additional expenses related to the standoff.
McIntire was also identified as a fugitive from Iowa with an active arrest warrant for “threat of explosive or incendiary device,” according to the criminal complaint.
Altoona police commended the Logan Township Police Department, the Blair County District Attorney’s Office, and local residents and motorists for their patience.
