Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said four people were shot early Sunday morning at an apartment complex in Lexington.
The incident took place between 1 and 1:30 a.m. in the Leawood Apartments on Lexington’s southeast side.
All four people were rushed to a Jackson hospital and are currently in stable condition.
Sheriff March stated that the incident occurred between two groups of people and that this year has seen the worst level of gun violence in Holmes County in his entire tenure.
The shooting appears to have been carried out with both handguns and rifles. The sheriff also stated that more young people are carrying guns, which has become a major issue.
There is no suspicious information at this time.
This is an active, ongoing inquiry.
