A woman was being held in the Callaway County Jail after deputies claimed she led them on a chase down Interstate 70 at speeds of 130 mph.
On Sunday, June 14, at 9:31 a.m., a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 70.
The automobile was alleged to have been involved in a chase with Ashland police officers earlier that day.
When they investigated the car’s registration plate, they discovered that it belonged to a woman who had been reported missing in Indiana.
According to court documents, the woman driving the automobile originally stopped for the deputy.
The deputy stated that when he ordered the woman, Peyton E. Downs, 32, of Indianapolis, IN, out of the automobile, she sped away.
This prompted a chase on I-70 by deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers.
According to the affidavits, Downs threw a plastic bag out of the car while on the 35-mile chase.
When deputies seized it, they discovered 33 grams of cocaine.
During the chase, Downs was accused of reaching 130 mph and nearly colliding with other vehicles at 100 mph.
After an unsuccessful effort to hit Downs’ car, they were able to convince her to drive over spike strips.
The strips flattened her passenger-side tires, forcing her to stop.
At that point, law enforcement personnel were able to apprehend her.
Prosecutors charged Downs with aggravated fleeing a stop or detention, tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution, and delivering a controlled substance other than 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid.
She was additionally charged with misdemeanor counts of DWI and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Downs was being held without a bond.
