Michigan woman apprehended while at wheel of dead grandfather’s Cadillac

A Michigan woman driving her late grandfather’s Cadillac was apprehended on drug charges after a police officer discovered her damaged headlight had been replaced with a small flashlight.

Coleen Elizabeth Kelly, 28, of Peck, Michigan, was driving the black Cadillac utility vehicle southbound on U.S. Highway 27/441 in Fruitland Park around 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to the arrest report. An officer noted that the passenger-side headlight was not illuminating properly. As he drove past the Cadillac, the officer saw the light source was only a little flashlight.

A traffic stop was initiated, and Kelly produced her driver’s license without incident. While a written warning was being prepared, a police K-9 named Drobey was dispatched for an open-air search of the car. The dog provided a positive alarm, forcing cops to remove Kelly and her front-seat companion from the Cadillac.

During a probable cause investigation, investigators discovered a black zipper bag on the center console embroidered with the letter “C.” Inside the bag, they found a little plastic baggie containing a clear, crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. The package also had a glass smoking device with charred residue, a discarded hypodermic needle, a marijuana baggie, and two gauge-style earrings.

Officers observed in the report that the “C” on the bag corresponded to Kelly’s initial name, and the gauge earrings matched the size of the stretched holes in her earlobe. Furthermore, Gilmore did not wear gauge-style earrings, and her name did not match the initial on the bag.

Kelly informed officers she was the primary driver of the automobile, which belonged to her deceased grandfather.

She was arrested on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and put into the Lake County Jail. She was released after paying a $2,500 bond.
