Obscenity-yelling man taken into custody at Warren Willis Church Camp

A Grand Island man was taken into custody for reportedly shouting at a church camp neighbor and attempting to start a brawl.

Deputies responded to a verbal altercation involving 48-year-old Jeremy Klingensmith at the Warren Willis Church Camp, 4991 Picciola Rd., Fruitland Park, around 8:20 p.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

After making contact with Klingensmith and his neighbor, the two were separated. Law enforcement was leaving the site when they overheard the former ranting at his wife about the event. She stated that she would be able to calm him down, and he looked to be sitting outside conversing with her as the deputies departed the area, according to the report.

However, around an hour later, the deputies were summoned back to the church camp for a probable physical altercation. The manager claimed that when checking the camp, he noticed Klingensmith screaming obscenities at another family. His wife tried to calm him down and lead him back inside their apartment, but he refused to accompany her. Instead, he swung his arm around to free himself from her grip, according to the account.

Three additional camp members approached the manager, explaining that they had heard the noise and had stepped outside to see what was going on. The manager also stated that he would be attempting to evict Klingensmith for his behavior and for disturbing numerous other neighbors, according to the complaint.

A deputy then spoke with Klingensmith’s wife. She claimed that when the deputies left, the neighbors returned to their unit. According to the allegation, she apologized to the neighbor’s wife for an earlier incident while her husband sat outside their unit’s door.

Klingensmith was seated on a bench near the road when he abruptly stood up to start another quarrel. His wife attempted to entice him back into their apartment, and he eventually listened. According to the complaint, there was a lot of yelling but no physical altercation.

The neighbor informed us that he was sitting outside smoking a cigarette as his wife spoke with Klingensmith’s wife. He saw Klingensmith ranting and screaming obscenities from a bench, and when he got up to walk toward him, the neighbor met him on the grass lot in front of the units. According to the allegation, he told Klingensmith to put the previous incident behind him and go inside.

Instead, Klingensmith kept yelling and screaming. His wife attempted to drag him back inside their apartment, but he grabbed her shoulders and pushed her out of the way. According to the story, this occurred twice before the neighbors simply went inside their flat to avoid the confrontation.

Klingensmith had previously pleaded no contest to a charge of disorderly behavior in 1998, according to the report.

Klingensmith was eventually arrested for disturbing the peace. He was booked into Lake County Jail and released after posting a $500 bond.
