Investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies arrested 11 people on felony charges and seized eight illegal firearms on Wednesday.
Governor Mike DeWine’s office announced Thursday that the arrests were part of the ongoing Violent Crime Reduction Initiative.
In one case, around 5:30 p.m., Cleveland officers attempted to stop a white Ford F-150 truck in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood for a traffic violation, but the driver kept going, according to investigators.
An Ohio State Highway Patrol Aviation crew flew overhead, tracking the truck and relaying information to officers on the ground. Officers deployed a device to slow the truck down.
Investigators said a juvenile passenger got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.
The driver, identified as 25-year-old Antoine Williams, allegedly jumped out of the moving truck and ran from officers. Officers then caught him and took him into custody.
Williams also illegally possessed a handgun, according to the governor’s office. Officers charged him with failure to comply and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle.
In another case, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers arrested 29-year-old Tremaine Harris during a traffic stop. Investigators said Harris tried to resist while speaking with troopers outside the car.
Investigators found and seized a loaded handgun, and officers charged Harris with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
Overall, the 11 suspects arrested in Wednesday’s operation face charges including failure to comply, improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and aggravated drug possession, according to the governor’s office.
“These enforcement initiatives bring together trained law enforcement officials to protect the public by removing violent criminals and illegal firearms from our streets,” DeWine said in a release. “The results from Wednesday’s operation demonstrate the strength of our ongoing partnerships and our focus on holding violent offenders responsible for their crimes.”
